An influential voiceLeadership groups will help guide best practice. The federal government has pledged $58 million to create special leadership groups, made up of nurses and doctors, within the hospital system. The lead clinician groups will help guide local hospital networks on how best practice is going to be achieved locally. A national leadership group will also be established as part of the funding. They will also be charged with improving hospital safety, the allocation of services as well as assessing community needs.

Re An influential voice. This is typical of this Govt. throw some money, start another committee to tell nurses how to recieve better outcomes. What we do know is; if the patient staff ratio is higher then the standard of care will be improved. Nurses know what best practice is, it is insulting to suggest otherwise. The $58 million would be better spent increasing staff numbers.

Donna is absolutely right! This is what the bureaucrats cannot get through their thick skulls! MORE committees and non-clinical groups will NOT solve clinical problems! These groups will not guide best practice. Time for the clinician to do his or her job properly and more flexible working conditions is more likely to get the outcomes needed.
