The former president of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr Diana Mason, has challenged nurses to this ahead of her keynote presentation at today's 2018 ACN Policy Summit.
The event is being held to recognise that while nurses are admired by patients for their work, they are still battling for comprehensive consultation on healthcare issues. The summit aims to offer nurses a seat at the policymaking table.
It will also set out the priority areas of healthy ageing, workforce sustainability, end of life care and chronic diseases, which the profession will work through over the next year.
Mason, who is currently co-director of the new Center for Health Policy and Media Engagement at the George Washington University School of Nursing, will walk attendees through the ways in which they can use their voice to shape the future of Australian services and public health.
Nursing Review spoke with Mason ahead of the event to discover the differences between the US and Australian health systems and how nurse-designed models of care stand out.
