What temporarily losing her vision taught one nurse about the profession

HESTA award winner Veronique Murphy, an associate nurse unit manager at Alfred Health, was recently invited by Deakin University to be a guest speaker at the School of Nursing and Midwifery’s awards night. Below is an edited transcript of the speech Murphy gave about her journey from graduation to her current role and the work that led to her award win.

A wonderful presentation and a very good read.
I support all the points that Veronique made about patient care and nursing practice. Her sense of humour is good medicine for healthy practice and happy patients.
Veronique thank you for the great article. Even though I am a paediatric nurse I found it useful, an eye opener and am encouraged to be a better advocate for those in my care ,whether in hospital or in a community care setting. And I learnt about the HESTA tool which I did not know and think it is a great tool. And in my work will remember it and ask useful questions to get information that will help me give better care. Im in the UK. Thank you
